Whether you are a beginner, an intermediate, or an advanced freelance writer, you need to develop skills to stay on top of issues.

Here are 10 tips for freelance writers who want to grow their writing business faster. Enjoy!

1. Believe In Yourself

One of the things I hardly hear other writers talk about when giving tips about having a successful freelance career is believing in yourself and your writing. Also, you must conceive that you can earn money writing because your writing is worth a lot of money.

As a beginner and even an expert, it is necessary to have faith in yourself and your work. Never doubt about the work you’ve put out there. Remember that the master was once an amateur. And the master still learns. So failure is always part of the journey of success.

If you believe in yourself, you will develop confidence. You wouldn’t have to worry, and you will be patient. It is always good to start small.

If you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will.

2. Start Writing

One of the best ways to start and grow your freelance career faster is to start writing now, even if you don’t have a website or blog yet. Because you don’t always need to create a blog before you can start earning from your writing, although it is necessary to have one.

You need to write a lot if you aim to become an in-demand writer working from home. If you don’t have a blog yet, you can try guest posting on other websites. Here are websites you can start a free blog on:

  • WordPress
  • Blogger

3. Network With Others

As someone once said, your network is your net worth. I like this tip a lot. I highly recommend that you follow and connect with other writers and potential clients. That is if you want to grow your freelance writing journey fast. This will allow you to learn and share skills and ultimately get clients.

Build and optimize your social media accounts, highlighting your skills and expertise. Social media is a free and powerful marketing tool you can use to make meaningful connections to grow your career as a freelance writer. You can join like-minded people to share knowledge and pitch clients.

Here are few social media I use that you can start building your connections:

  • LinkedIn
  • Twitter
  • Facebook

4. Have A Mentor

An experience they say is the best teacher. And honestly, it is. So you want to grow your freelance writing career, right? That’s good. But the probability of making lots of mistakes is very high, especially If you are starting from scratch because you have no experience.

One tip you cannot overlook is, having a mentor to guide you. Your mentor will give you guidance if you are desperate to succeed and are humble. You should be ready to learn and implement the guide. They might not always be perfect. However, they are most often right due to their several years in the field.

Remember that whatever you want to be, do or go, someone had been there before. So it is necessary to seek advice.

5. Master Your Skills

As a freelance writer, your goal is to create and publish meaningful and engaging content for your readers and clients. You wouldn’t want your client to perceive you as an awful writer. Therefore you must develop and master your writing and editing skills.

And thanks to technology, several apps can help you develop these skills. Here are a few I use personally, and I want to share them with you.

  • Grammarly
  • Google Docs
  • Hemingway

6. Become An Expert In Your Niche

How would you feel to be seen as an expert in your niche? What about clients recommending you to other potential clients? Other writers referencing you in their work?

Feels great, right? That’s expert-level work. Always make it a point to continue learning and improving your knowledge in your niche. That’s how you become an expert in your field. And everybody would want to come to you for advice and decent work.

7. Manage Your Time

Honestly, freelance writing may take a lot of your time, especially if you do everything yourself. Your work may include researching and creating SEO-friendly content. And on top of these, you need to meet clients’ deadlines.

Time management is essential here. Therefore you must schedule your activities in advance. The best way is to create a calendar to guide all your activities.

If you want to grow your freelance writing career, you must strive to delight your customer. This means that you must go the extra mile to deliver more than what the client expects from you. This can be providing some free services to new clients and your best clients.

You can provide after-sale services asking the client to not hesitate to contact you if they need clarity or something else. If clients are delighted, you can politely ask them to recommend you or rate your work. This is a free marketing strategy to grow.

Acquiring and retaining a client is not an easy task. Therefore you must do anything within your rich to delight them.

10. Seek And Embrace Feedback

One best way to improve your services and grow as a freelance writer is to seek feedback from your clients or networks. Embrace feedback, whether negative or positive. Because they are free of charge sources to learn and grow.
